FINAL TWO NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2009/10 MONASH BUSINESS AWARDS
No Fuss Solutions & Vega Press are the final two nominees for the 2009/10 Monash Business Awards. The announcement was made at a Lunch held at the Mulgrave Country Club on Wednesday 23 June. Approximately 150 business people were in attendance.
The guest speaker at the Lunch, Michael Stillwell, Director, Stillwell Motor Group, delivered a fascinating speech about the complexities associated with running a family business, the importance of succession planning and the need to establish clear family values that all family members believe in.
The first business nominee to present at the lunch was established in 1998 and is located in Mulgrave. No Fuss Solutions is renowned for excellence in the delivery of professional services to the event industry and has worked on major projects such as 2008 World Youth Day and a lucrative contract with Country Racing Victoria. Working in a niche market, they specialise in and are the largest stockists of grass and ground protection temporary flooring products in the southern hemisphere. Accepting the nomination was No Fuss Solution's Business Development Manager, Mr Jose van den Dungen.
Vega Press, the second nominee of the day is located in Notting Hill and is at the forefront of the printing industry, both environmentally and in colour standards. From humble beginnings 50 years ago, Vega Press remains a family owned business and has built a proud reputation as a quality 100% carbon-offset environmental sheetfed printer. Accepting the nomination was the Vega Press' Commercial Development Manager, Mr Rob Nugent.

Metricon Pty Ltd & Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) have been announced as the next two nominees for the 2009/10 Monash Business Awards at a Lunch held at the Mulgrave Country Club on Wednesday 21 April. Approximately 160 business people were in attendance.
The guest speaker at the Lunch, David Meiklejohn AM, President, Melbourne Cricket Club, gave an very interesting presentation on one of Australia greatest sporting icons, the MCG, and the role the MCC has in preserving and developing sport in Victoria.
The first business nominee announced at the Lunch has been in operation for over 30 years and is located in Mount Waverley. Metricon Pty Ltd is one of Australia's leading home builders and land developers. With a reputation for quality, innovation and distinction in design, their operations span the eastern seaboard of Australia from Melbourne to far north Queensland. Accepting the nomination was Metricon's National Display Delivery Manager, Mr Peter Temopoulos.
PIAA, the second nominee of the morning is the peak organisation for companies the print, paper, packaging and visual communication industries in Australia. As an independent, member-based organisation they represent over 2000 large, medium and small businesses within the imaging and communication sectors. Located in Mulgrave and established in 1882, they work hard to advocate and support over 2000 members with branches in all states of Australia. Accepting the nomination was the PIAA's Business Development Officer, Bruce Lowery.

The guest speaker at the Breakfast, Rev. Tim Costello, CEO World Vision Australia, delivered an inspiring presentation about how the world has truly become a "global village" and what our place as individuals and as a business community can be in that village.
The first business nominee announced at the Breakfast was established in 2007 and is located in Notting Hill. Fire and Safety Australia Pty Ltd is Australia's leading provider of National Fire and Safety Training. With a passion for safety and a genuine love of the work they do Fire and Safety Australia enjoys a national presence and have become a ‘one stop shop' for all Fire & Safety Training, Equipment and Workplace Procedures. Crimson Fox Creative Studios, the second nominee of the morning, are experts in graphic design, web design, illustration, photography & digital video promotion. Located at the Monash enterprise Centre in Mulgrave, their phenomenal growth since being established in 2007 is largely due to goal focused strategies to ensure that the investment in their customer's brand is targeted and has focus. Accepting Crimson Fox Creative Studios' nomination was their Director, Russell Pearson.

The guests speaker at the Lunch, Mr Terry Dillon, Acting CEO of Hawthorn Football Club, who delivered an entertaining presentation about the journey Hawthorn had been on from almost extinction in the early nineties to premiership glory last year and the steps that were taken to achieve that success.
The first business nominee announced at the lunch was established in 1968 and is located in Notting Hill. Furnace Engineering, the leading Australian owned manufacturer of furnaces & industrial ovens, has grown steadily & successfully over the last 40years and sees employee loyalty as a vital part of the company's success. THE BODY SHOP WINS BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
The Body Shop took out top honours at the 2008-2009 Monash Business Awards presentation held last Friday at the Best Western Wheelers Hill International.
More than 180 Monash business and council representatives attended the event with special guests Maxine Morand MP (Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development & Women's Affairs) and Cr Tom Morrissey.
Deputy Mayor Charlotte Baines said the Monash Business Awards (MBA) help promote and recognise business success and excellence through the recognition of significant achievements and innovations.
"This is one of the most important nights on the business calendar in Monash and it provides local business people with the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and discuss current issues," said Cr Baines.
The Body Shop was founded in 1983 by Graeme Wise, who began with one store and bottled products in the family garage in Mulgrave.
Today, the business turns over $120 million, employs more than 1200 people and has 80 stores across Australia. Actively campaigning for positive social and environmental change, the family-owned company enjoys 100% brand recognition and attributes their success to committed, passionate, enthusiastic people.
The Monash Business Awards were established in 1994 by ten local business leaders to honour local business achievements.

Geotesta has been announced as the final nominee for the 2008/09 Monash Business Awards at a Lunch held at the Mulgrave Country Club on Wednesday 17 June. Approximately 120 business people were in attendance.
The guests speakers at the Lunch were Professor Nick Freezer, Medical Director of Women's and Children's Program at Southern Health, who spoke about the launch of the new Monash Children's Hospital and Debra McLean, Employment Specialist from Oregon, USA, who discussed the importance of seeing people's capabilities rather than their disabilities.
The business nominee announced at the lunch was established in 2006 and is based at the Monash Enterprise Centre. Geotesta is one of a rare breed of Geotechnical engineering firms in Australia that provide ground engineering and instrumentation services and was nominated because they are an excellent example of how taking the courageous step to "go out on your own" can bring great reward. Accepting the nomination was Geotesta's Managing Director, Mr Stephen Darmawan.

TWO NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2008/09 MONASH BUSINESS AWARDS
The Novotel Melbourne Glen Waverley & The Body Shop have been announced as the latest nominees for the Monash Business Awards 2008/09 year at a Lunch held at the Mulgrave Country Club on Wednesday 22 April. Approximately 120 business people were in attendance.
The message from TXM Principal Tim McLean who was the keynote speaker at the Lunch was that Australian companies need to think "lean" to be a competitive force against their Chinese counterparts. He says an approach to manufacturing developed by Toyota, called lean manufacturing, is the key to providing Australian manufacturers with the agility required to give them a competitive edge over Chinese imports. "Lean manufacturing allows suppliers to offer faster service, better quality, smaller batch sizes and a greater degree of customisation than traditional manufacturing approaches without increasing unit costs."
The Novotel Melbourne Glen Waverley, the first of the nominees, is a 200 room 4.5 star hotel suited to both business and leisure customers. Their General Manager, Mr Phil O'Brien, accepted the nomination and gave a short presentation explaining how Novotel Melbourne Glen Waverley is committed to the local community by supporting local business' and promoting the local area.
The Body Shop, an inspirational skincare and cosmetics retailer, nominated because of their ability to combine a successful business with a commitment to positive social and environmental change, was the second nominee of the day. Accepting the nomination on their behalf was their People & Values Manager, Louisa Trombin.

A FURTHER TWO NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2008/09 MONASH BUSINESS AWARDS
The Minders Building & Garden Care & 7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd have been announced as the newest nominees for the Monash Business Awards 2008/09 year at a Breakfast held at the Mulgrave Country Club on Wednesday 18 February. Approximately 200 business people attended the Breakfast.
Bernard Salt, Demographer and Partner at KPMG was the keynote speaker at the Breakfast. He gave small and medium sized businesses advice on how they can survive the economic downturn. Mr Salt also gave an update on the controversial Monash Baby Boomer study, which was commissioned to help plan for the future needs of the Baby Boomer generation in the City of Monash. With some interesting insights into the differences between the generations, Mr Salt had the audience thoroughly entertained.
The Minders Building & Garden Care, the first of the morning's nominees, specialises in maintenance of commercial and owner's corporation properties. Troy Goodwin, Director, gave a short presentation and accepted the nomination on their behalf.
The other nominee announced at the breakfast, 7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd, became a household name by introducing the convenience store concept to Australia in the late 70's. Accepting the nomination on their behalf was their CEO, Warren Wilmot.

ANOTHER NOMINEE ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2008/09 MONASH BUSINESS AWARDS
Photometric Solutions International has been announced as the next nominee for the Monash Business Awards 2008/09 year at the November Breakfast held at the Mulgrave Country Club on Wednesday 19 November. Approximately 170 business people attended the Breakfast.
Franz Madlener, Managing Director of the Villa & Hut Group was the keynote speaker at the Breakfast. He spoke about how to be an employer of choice and the importance of establishing, maintaining and enhancing business relationships. With an interesting and unique business story, Mr Madlener had the audience thoroughly engaged.
Dr Steven Jenkins accepted the nomination on behalf of Photometric Solutions International. Dr Jenkins explained that Photometric Solutions International is a manufacturer of scientific measurement equipment specialising in Photometry and Colorimetry measuring for the automotive, signalling and general lighting industries.

Contessa receptions and Ronald McDonald House Monash have been announced as the first nominees for the Monash Business Awards 2008/09 year at the September luncheon held at the Mulgrave Country Club on Wednesday 17 September. Approximately 170 business people attended the luncheon.
Bill Bourgazas, Proprietor and Caitlyn Barnes, Events Manager of Contessa Receptions accepted the nomination on behalf of Contessa Receptions. Mr Bourgazas outlined Contessa Receptions progress from when they took over the businesses 18 months ago. They are now actively involved in community projects as well as expanding their business into the corporate sector.
Jennifer North, Executive Officer of Ronald McDonald House Monash was also present at the lunch to accept the nomination. Ms North outlined the service Ronald McDonald House Monash provides for sick children and their families.
Stephen Bradford, Chief Executive Officer for the Port of Melbourne Corporation was the keynote speaker for the luncheon. He addressed the audience on issues arising from the bay dredging including the equipment being used to conduct this project and the environmental and economic impacts of the dredging. As the bay dredging has been an issue publicised in the media frequently, the audience were very receptive to Mr Bradford's presentation.

FUTURE FIBRE WINS BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
A fibre optic ‘spyware' technology company was named the Business of the Year at the annual Monash Business Awards presentation on 25 July.
Located in Mulgrave, Future Fibre Technologies provide intrusion detection systems for governments, military and businesses around the world. Their clients include the US Military and Intelligence Agency, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the governments of Singapore and Australia.
Strong commercial growth in both the domestic and overseas markets, and a strong focus on continual product improvement, has seen FFT become market leaders in their field.
In accepting the Award, FFT Business Development Manager, Paul Rowan, attributed the company's success to the rise in global terrorism and oil theft threats.
"There is no European or American company that can do what we do. It is virtually unique in the world," said Mr Rowan.
Hosted by Russell Hannan, Monash Business Awards Chairman, other winners on the night included Bestchance Child Family Care in the Innovation category, Acromet Pty Ltd (Manufacturing), Griffiths Coffee (Small to Medium Enterprises) and Web24 Pty Ltd who received the Small Business Encouragement Award.
The Monash Business Awards was established in 1994 by a small group of senior executives from private sector organisations and local government. Today, it gathers together representatives from over 150 businesses and schools in the City of Monash.
Economic Development Manager, Jeff McAlpine said that the Monash Business Awards promote business success and excellence through the recognition of significant achievements and innovations.
"Award nominees make a presentation to guests at regular business functions, which also host a keynote speaker. These events provide business people with the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and discuss current issues," said Mr McAlpine.
Other finalists in the 2008 Monash Business Awards were Pinewood's Pierre's Oyster Seafood Restaurant and family-owned smallgoods company, Ridders Fresh.
Each year the Monash Business Awards, in support of local charitable organisations, donates a sum of money to assist in meeting the various needs within the community. In June, the wonderful work of the Glenallen School was acknowledged by the business community when Chairman Russell Hannan presented School Liason Officer Robyn Fenton with a $1000 cheque towards a new wheelchair accessible playground.

FURTHER NOMINEES FOR THE MONASH BUSINESS AWARDS ANNOUNCED
Ridders Fresh and Future Fibre Technologies Pty Ltd are the latest nominees for the 2007/08 Monash Business Awards.
They accepted their nominations at the Monash Business Awards Breakfast function held at the Mulgrave Country Club on Wednesday 20 February 2008.
Andy Ridder, Director, accepted the nomination on behalf of Ridders Fresh and gave an interesting insight into the company's history. The result of two respected and successful family businesses joining forces, Ridders Fresh has origins dating back to 1959. Specialists in ham, bacon, sausage and salami products, they are market leaders who believe in a hands on approach and a responsibility to impart knowledge to the next generation of smallgoods makers.
Future Fibre Technologies (FFT) is a specialist in fibre optic sensing equipment, and their Business Development Manager, Paul Rowan, was also present at the breakfast to accept their nomination. Responsible for the security of some of the world's most valuable and critical infrastructure, FFT are world leaders having an American subsidiary for a numbers of years and a newly opened office in the UK. To serve the European, Middle Eastern and African markets.
Stan Alves, widely known as a "Master Communicator", also made a presentation to the audience of approximately 150 business people. He provided football analogies and demonstrated how lessons learnt on the field could also be applied to everyday business.

FURTHER NOMINEES FOR THE MONASH BUSINESS AWARDS ANNOUNCED
Griffiths Coffee and Web24 Pty Ltd are the newest nominees for the 2007/08 Monash Business Awards.
They accepted the nominations at the Monash Business Awards Breakfast function held at the Mulgrave Country Club in November.
Peter Patiseas, the General Manager for Griffiths Coffee, was pleased to be one of the two companies nominated for the awards. Two brothers, with a passion for coffee conceived Oasis Coffee in the early 70's. As demand grew the brothers were able to acquire Griffiths Coffee, an established coffee and tea supplier. The successful amalgamation of both businesses has allowed Griffiths Coffee to achieve great rewards. The company now is still a privately owned family business.
Web24's Director, Aaron Sinclair, was present at the breakfast to accept the nomination. Web24 commenced operations in Australia in February this year after the sale of a very successful business in New Zealand. Providing enterprise hosting, messaging and server virtualisation services to Australian based individuals, clubs, organizations and businesses; they already have received a number of industry accolades.
John Gardiner, Managing Director of ConnectEast also made a presentation to the audience of approximately 180 business people. He provided an overview of the Eastlink Project; it's completion date and its benefits on business.

Russell Hannan, Chairman, Monash Business Awards Committee announced the first nominee, Pierre's Oyster Seafood Restaurant for the 2007/08-year at the Monash Business Awards Luncheon held on Wednesday 19th September at the Mulgrave Country Club.
Pierre and Ann Godor from Pierre's Oyster were at the lunch to accept the nomination. They were delighted to be nominated for the awards. Pierre's Oyster is located at the Pinewood Shopping Centre. With more than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry and a desire to provide guests with a memorable dining experience, the restaurant has gained a reputation for excellence in service and wonderful food. Russell Hannan said, "This is the first time a restaurant has been nominated for a MBA award since the awards started in 1994"
Guests at the luncheon heard from Guest Speaker Tony Pearson, who provided an economic update. Tony provided some interesting facts about how the economy was going and kept the audience engaged in his presentation. Tony has held the position Head of Australian Economics with the ANZ Bank since in April 2005.
The audience also heard from Roger Christiansz, Managing Director of FLIR Systems Australia P/L, who is a past winner of the Innovation Award. Roger spoke about the positive effect winning the Innovation award has had on the company. He also demonstrated one of FLIR's products to the audience to give them a better understanding of what the company do.
Aspya, a Young Achievement Australia Group, were also present to promote their product, Bed Bugs, which consists of two connecting clips where one is attached to the quilt and the other to the quilt cover.
